Brite Vocational Training Center (BVTC)
The Government of Cameroon has prioritized skills development and training through Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as an enabler to achieving vision 2035, as a catalyst for industrialization and a key strategy to addressing youth employment. Skills development draws from Vision 2035’s social pillar on education and training which emphasizes enhanced equity and wealth creation opportunities for the poor. The TVET sector is however faced with several challenges including poor perception, inadequate infrastructure, outdated training equipment, inappropriate curriculum that is not aligned to industry needs, inadequate number of qualified trainers and low enrollment. To reverse this trend, Government of Cameroon initiated reforms in TVET through the creation of the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training, with a view to improving quality and relevance of training and employability of youth.
The Brite platform has been designed to prepare the Cameroon and Africa workforce with the skills needed to future proof their careers against the expected displacement of millions of jobs and skills instability because of technological change. It is also designed to provide businesses and economies with the skilled labour needed to fulfil the millions of new roles that will be created by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, shifts in the global economy and industrial transitions towards sustainability.
Brite is creating a public-private platform to give Cameroonian the skills they need in the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. “The scale and urgency of this transformation calls for nothing short of a reskilling revolution,”
