A-level Chemistry is a popular subject at Brite Academy with many students choosing to pursue it beyond GCE by selecting this A-level. It provides a fantastic opportunity to challenge analytical, creative and critical minds, as well as providing foundational knowledge for anyone looking to pursue related subjects at university. This includes Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy and many other subjects.
The Chemistry department at Brite Academy is a fantastic environment in which to learn. We value practical work and demonstrations as we view Chemistry as an experimental science. It’s essential that students can get hands-on with learning in order to ground their knowledge and achieve fantastic results while enjoying their A-level. Lessons are designed to stimulate curiosity while learning new methods of enquiry. The content is designed to thoroughly prepare students for examinations both practical and written. We aim to give our Sixth Form students a thorough grounding in the principles and applications of Chemistry and to make them aware that these applications can be both beneficial and detrimental to the individual, the community and to the environment.
During your Chemistry A-level, you will build on some work from GCE in more depth, as well as covering some new topics. These include:
- Atomic structure
- Bonding
- Periodicity
- Reaction kinetics
- Equilibria
- Organic chemistry
Practical skills are integrated into lessons throughout the year with these being examined in the final examinations, and these skills will be endorsed in the new certification process at A-level.
