What is career development

Career development is the process of choosing a career, improving your skills and advancing along a career path. It’s a lifelong process of learning and decision-making that brings one closer to his/her ideal job, skillset and lifestyle. It can also be looked at as a lifelong process of managing, learning, work and transition in order to move toward personal development and evolve in one’s professional life.

Note: Career development goes on in a cyclical manner. Where one process ends, certain demands, needs or changes in the job market may warrant another developmental process. Another developmental process can be prompted when the individual, after going through the last stage of “Performing” or self-reflection feels that he or she is not satisfied with the result or outcome of the process.

Personal Career Development Strategy

As the name implies, these are conscious thoughts, ideas, activities and decisions taken by an individual, independent of any organization to develop his/her career in order to reach his/her ideal career goals.

It involves effective planning, effectively decision making, clearly stated goals, time management and deadline allocation etc .

It also involves the 5 main processes of CD. This decision/strategy is not time bound, at any point in the professional life of an individual (s)he can decide to pursue his dream/ideal career.

Organizational Career Development Strategy

This is synonymous to “on the job training”. These are strategies put in place within an organization to help employees develop professional and be able to multi task.

This gives room for a small yet competent manpower within an organization. On the part of the employees, they are open to opportunities of growth/promotion within the organization. Brite Academy can implement a strategy that all permanent staff be trained in graphics designing.

Instead of hiring someone to perform the singular role of graphics designing, all staff after haven undergone this training can conveniently perform the role of graphics designer in addition to their technical task/role

It is imperative for every organization to look out for the growth and development of its employees; either within or outside the organization. With respect to career development at Brite Academy, permanent onsite staff are encouraged to undertake courses which will not only increase their competence in their areas of specialty but will also help them acquire other skills that complements and add value to already existing skills which will lead to higher job performance and possible promotion.

The general objective of CD orientation training for staff is to develop their capacities and competence in more than one area of specialty for them to be able to multi task, putting them in a favorable and competitive position in the job market.

  • With respect to career development at Brite Academy, permanent onsite staff are encouraged to undertake courses which will not only increase their competence in their areas of specialty but will also help them acquire other skills that complements and add value to already existing skills which will lead to high job performance.
  • It is also Brite’s policy for all online trainers to undergo training on onlinecourse delivery. This is also an aspect of career development since teachers who are familiar with teaching in traditional classroom setting have the opportunity to develop skills on how to deliver lessons online.
  • Master Classes, webinars and in-house developmental training that cuts across different disciplines, career paths/themes are also strategies put in place by BAI to help develop both trainers and employees.

Brite Career Development Strategy For External Clients

Our different training programs both accredited and supervised are meant to serve the career developmental process of our clients.

A trained accountant and Marketer may opt to enroll in Computerized Accounting and Digital Marketing respectively. Acquiring these skills will put them above their colleagues and will  create opportunities for a vertical growth in the career/organization.

Career orientation, coaching and counseling are some of the CD services or strategies BAI renders  to its external clients. Upstanding, proposing and guiding clients into making right career choices is what we offer to clients who come knocking on our doors.
